New Yorkers for Bangladeshi Mutual Aid (NY4BDMA) was founded by three University at Buffalo alumni in 2020 to provide Southeast Asian and Bengali widowers with essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that our organization has officially received its title of a 501 C3 status, we strive to empower women and children to achieve self-sufficiency by providing the resources for access to economic stability, mental health resources, our community refrigerator, and the tools to navigate the Western NY community. The Southeast community in Buffalo is predominantly Bengali. This community consists of low wage immigrant workers, youth, and families. New Yorkers for Bangladeshi Mutual Aid now exists to build resources, educate, and empower not only the Southeast Asian community, but all communities.
